Grading
The percentages for grading will be filled in here after the first class once you have all come to an agreement!
HOmework: 40%
Attendance: 10% with 4 excused absences. Each absence after that costs you 2% of your attendance grade: which is effectively 2% off your course grade.
I'll try to warn you when you are getting close to this!
Quizzes: 10%. You decided on short weekly quizzes.
These will either be 5 question quizzes (short answer or multiple choice/T-F) or a simple homework problem to solve.
Midterm: 20%
Final: 20%

Additional Notes
- I want this class to be one of the best ones you have ever had. To that end,
- I pledge to treat you with respect and kindness during the course of the semester.
- I expect that you will offer the same both to me and to your classmates.
- There is a great deal of wonder in the study of language in all its diversity. I take this subject with both seriousness and joy. If you enter into this attitude with me, we'll have a better semester.
- I am always glad to meet with you and help or just discuss linguistics in general. Don't be shy about coming to see me outside of class.
- Everything you need is in the book or on this website including the schedule ofr readings and assignments: www.fridaynightlinguistics.org/2900/
- If you need accommodation for a disability of any type, please let me know sooner rather than later.
- Please know that I *always* pursue and report any case of academic dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism etc.) that happens during my classes, so keep your attention on your own papers during examinations and do your own work on the homework.
- I am happy to help you individually or in groups during class and during my office hour. Please don't hesitate to bring me your questions.
- If you go to the Learning Commons for help with class material, I suggest calling ahead to see if anyone is available. In many cases, the tutors who specialize in teaching English to speakers of other languages should be able to assist you as they will have familiarity with linguistics.
